New Year…New Experiences

New Year…New Experiences

So, believe it or not, I only celebrate two major holidays. New Year and my birthday. New Year because it is a brand new year full of learning experiences, love, lessons, and triumphs. My birthday because, well, I am obviously a queen, and my birthday is the only thing I get to celebrate my way. All of the other holidays I reserve for my children and loved ones. Many people use the New Year as a way to "re-invent" themselves, and while there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I do not necessarily agree with that. The adage "New Year, New Me" isn't something I agree with either simply because it implies that I am unhappy with what and who I was the past year and seek to be something better. That is simply untrue. I use the new year to learn from my past mistakes, and believe it or not; I actually look forward to the ones I will make the coming year. Why, you ask? Simply because making those mistakes teaches me a lesson in both resilience and what not to do in the future. If you know me, you know I love learning new things, and whether good or bad, experience is a learning one and arms me with the knowledge to use for the future.

I also do not make New Year's resolutions. Do you know why? Because people create them with the intent to follow them and then fall back into the same routine. I cannot tell you how many times I said my New Years Resolution was to go to the gym and never went. It's simply because my follow-through was weak, or it's simply because I lacked the motivation to do so. Either way, it didn't get done, and it's no one's fault but my own.

So since I do not make resolutions, how do I reach goals for the year, you ask? I commit. I set a goal and commit to learning something, and if I fail, I learn from the experience. I do not get upset when something happens; I simply appreciate the experience and move forward.

Now you know why I don't make New Year's Resolutions and why I look forward to the experiences. So what are some experiences you are looking forward to?
